EU to terminate anti-dumping investigation procedure for polyvinyl alcohol in China

On March 10, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the EU member states passed a draft and decided to terminate the anti-dumping investigation procedure for polyvinyl alcohol produced in mainland China and the Taiwan region of China. The temporary anti-dumping tax originally imposed was exempted.

The draft adopted by the EU member states’ foreign ministers has yet to be formally passed by the European Commission to take effect.

It is reported that in December 2006, the European Commission decided to launch anti-dumping investigations on polyvinyl alcohol exported to the European Union during the period from October 2005 to September 2006 for China and Taiwan. In September 2007, the European Commission decided to impose a 6-month provisional anti-dumping tax on this product at a tax rate of 10%. Polyvinyl alcohol is a widely used water-soluble polymer with properties ranging between plastic and rubber. Its use can be divided into two major categories, fiber and non-fiber.
