Commemorative beer can to support local charity
Excerpts from Firehouse.com:
Old Style is once again celebrating Chicago’s bravest with its limited-edition commemorative can, following a successful launch last fall. This year’s campaign is a tribute to the city’s firefighters and their families, as the brand continues its partnership with the Ende, Menzer, Walsh and Quinn (EMWQ) Retirees’, Widows’ and Children’s Assistance Fund. Every case sold will help support this local nonprofit that provides essential financial aid to the most vulnerable widows and orphans of Chicago Fire Department members.
This marks the second year of the program, and fans of Old Style are already excited about the new packaging. The commemorative can will be available from July through early September—or while supplies last—and comes in 24-packs, 12-packs, and 16-ounce cans. In addition to the collectible appeal, Old Style has pledged to donate between $10,000 and $20,000 to the EMWQ fund, showing its commitment to the community.
Old Style has deep roots in Chicago, and the Chicago Heroes initiative is a way for the brand to give back to those who keep the city safe. The can features an image of a firefighter along with details about the cause, and it’s now available at retailers across Chicagoland. For many, this isn’t just a beer—it’s a symbol of gratitude and support.
“When we introduced the Chicago Heroes program last year, it was our way of recognizing the everyday heroes who often go unnoticed,†said Dan McHugh, CMO of Pabst Brewing Co. “We chose the EMWQ fund because of the incredible impact they have on the lives of firefighters and their families. The donations from last year made a real difference, and we’re thrilled to bring this campaign back with even more support this time around.â€
Last year’s effort helped several families in the area, providing much-needed funds for education, bills, and daily expenses. This year, the program is expanding, with more cases available to ensure even more families can benefit. It’s a powerful reminder of how small actions can lead to big changes.
The EMWQ Assistance Fund has been serving the Chicago Fire Department community for over two decades. Each year, it identifies the most deserving recipients, offering annual gifts to widows receiving modest pensions and support to orphans of fallen firefighters. In times of tragedy, the fund also steps in to assist children of active members who lose their lives on or off duty. Through community events, donations, and partnerships, the organization has raised over $10 million to date.
Old Style’s continued support shows that brands can make a meaningful difference when they align with causes that matter. Whether you're a long-time fan or just passing through Chicago, this commemorative can is more than a product—it's a gesture of appreciation for those who protect us every day.
Thanks, Dan.
