In the end, Yan Dongdong chooses a translator to make a living. The content of the translation is varied: news reports, technical documents of biological companies, collections of ancient coins... These activities make him barely make a living. But there are only a few days each month to work. Most of the days he used to run, practice pull-ups and practice climbing. Later, Yan Dongdong specifically chose to translate books related to mountaineering, such as the Mountaineering Technical Manual. So far, he has translated 23 books.
When preparing for the Olympic Torch, he marched in the camp at 6,500 meters on Mount Everest. Yan Dongdong met Zhou Peng, a student at the China Agricultural University. They were chatting in the tent about the contents of the book Extreme Mountaineering. They felt bloody and agreed to experience the feeling of free climbing after the torch event.
In 2009, Yan Dongdong and Zhou Peng completed the first ascent of the Central South Pillar line at the sister peak of Siguniang Mountain in Sichuan Province, reaching the ice-filled peak of 6,247 meters above sea level. This climb allowed them to sign up as a sponsor athlete for a famous outdoor brand.
