3-11 Alarm fire and Haz Mat Level 1 in Chicago, 2-21-19 (more)

Here's what Steve Redick had to say:

I captured these images around 0515 on Thursday. It was really challenging to get good shots—the L-10 ladder and heavy smoke were blocking the front view. The rear and upwind angle was better, but the arcing wires made it hard to get too close. It was a plating facility, so hazmat protocols were in place along with some local evacuations. It was good to see the new TL5 in action. The TL10 had an old HME spare and wasn’t used much.

I found the scene very intense, especially with the thick smoke and the ongoing firefighting efforts. It’s always interesting to see how crews handle these types of incidents, especially with the presence of hazardous materials. The new TL5 unit looked well-prepared, and it was reassuring to see the team working efficiently under tough conditions. I appreciate Steve taking the time to document this event—his photos really give a sense of the scale and intensity of the fire.
