GURNEE, IL – The Village of Gurnee and the Warren Waukegan Fire Protection District (WWFPD) officially opened Fire Station #3 on Wednesday, October 13th at 1:00 PM. The event featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony and celebration at the new facility located at 5330 Manchester Drive. This new station is an essential addition to the existing fire stations that serve both the Village of Gurnee and the WWFPD.
The 14,452 square foot building will be staffed by five firefighter/paramedics and will house two ambulances and one ladder truck. Its strategic location is expected to significantly improve emergency response times, especially during high-volume call periods. It also offers easy access to major highways like I-94 and Route 120, making it more efficient for emergency services to reach residents quickly.
Planning for the new station began several years ago, with the Village conducting multiple analyses to determine the need. Originally, the project was estimated to cost around $6.3 million. It was included in the 2020–2021 capital budget, but construction was delayed in April 2020 due to the pandemic. However, as the situation stabilized, the village sought new bids, which came in at $5.8 million. Despite the economic challenges brought on by the pandemic, the project moved forward without significant disruption.
