Russia's RUSAL has installed a new type of electrolytic tank with 3 tons of aluminum per day.

RUSAL, the world's third-largest aluminum producer, announced on Thursday that it has successfully installed a new 400-kilometer electrolytic cell at its Sayanogorsk smelter. According to a company statement, this advanced system is capable of producing 3 tons of aluminum daily—marking a significant improvement in both efficiency and environmental sustainability compared to the previous 300 kA electrolytic cells. The company has plans to install more than two of these state-of-the-art electrolytic tanks at the Sayansk facility in the near future. This move is part of RUSAL’s broader strategy to boost production capacity while keeping operational costs under control. In addition to expanding at Sayanogorsk, RUSAL also intends to test a 500-kilometer electrolytic cell at its Krasnoyarsk smelter later this year. These innovations are part of a long-term plan to increase aluminum output significantly. By implementing modernization initiatives across its existing smelters and building new facilities, RUSAL aims to raise its annual primary aluminum production to between one million and five million tons by 2015. In 2004, the company produced 2.671 million tons of primary aluminum, highlighting the ambitious growth trajectory it is now pursuing.
