Loaner engine for Elk Grove Township – update

Bill Friedrich recently shared an image of an engine currently in use by the Elk Grove Township Fire Department. This particular piece of equipment was previously owned by the Galesburg Fire Department.
In his own words, Friedrich explained, "I took the picture of the borrowed engine that Elk Grove Township is using while their Spartan/Alexis engine is being serviced. The temporary engine is X-Galesburg FD Engine 52." He even provided a snapshot of the vehicle when it was part of the Galesburg fleet.
Attached to the post are two images. The first shows the Elk Grove Township fire engine, which now carries the designation of Engine 211 but was once Engine 52 for the Galesburg department. It’s currently filling in during maintenance work on their primary vehicle. The second photograph captures the same engine back when it belonged to Galesburg. Built in 2003 on a Spartan Diamond chassis by Alexis, it features a robust 1,500-gallon-per-minute (GPM) pump and a 600-gallon water tank.
These photos highlight not only the practicality of sharing resources between departments but also the enduring legacy of older firefighting vehicles. As someone who appreciates these machines, Friedrich’s contribution adds depth to our understanding of how different departments manage their assets over time.
