Working fire in Niles, 1-25-19

On Friday afternoon, January 25, 2019, firefighters in Niles responded to reports of an explosion at a townhouse located at 8839 N Washington Street. Upon arrival, they discovered thick smoke emanating from the eaves of the building, which quickly intensified. This prompted the emergency services to escalate the situation to a working fire status. Firefighters swiftly entered the premises and managed to bring the blaze under control. Mutual aid support was provided by neighboring departments including Morton Grove, Des Plaines, North Maine, Glenview, and Park Ridge. While the exact cause of the explosion remains unclear, it is believed to have originated in the basement of the townhouse.
