I just came across this really cool story about a 1991 Ford/Saab rescue vehicle that has quite the history. Bill Friedrich shared this fascinating account, and I thought it was worth passing along.
It all started with the River Grove Fire Department, where this particular Ford Cargo 8000/Saab combo first hit the road as Squad 564. From there, its journey took an interesting turn when it was sold to the neighboring Franklin Park Fire Department. They kept it for a while, using it as their Rescue 1 until they eventually decided to upgrade. That's when the vehicle found its way to the O’Fallon Underwater Search and Recovery Team in St. Clair County, Illinois. Now it’s known as Dive 1, continuing its service in a slightly different capacity.

Fast forward a bit, and here’s the same vehicle serving as Rescue 1 in Franklin Park. The design stayed pretty similar, but you can notice some minor changes—maybe a fresh coat of paint or updated decals. It’s neat to see how these vehicles adapt as they change hands.

And now, here it is today, proudly wearing the colors of the O’Fallon team. As Dive 1, it’s still making a difference, just in a more specialized role. It’s incredible to think about how versatile these vehicles can be.
