This report comes from Larry Shapiro:
The Gurnee Fire Department responded to a fire at 17434 W. Walnut early this afternoon. Upon arrival, crews discovered flames in one unit of a six-unit townhouse. As the fire spread to neighboring units, the alarm was upgraded to a Box Alarm and then to a Second Alarm. Firefighters launched an aggressive attack and managed to contain the fire before it reached the end units.
Three firefighters were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, while several residents signed medical release forms on the scene.
Mutual aid support included engines from Beach Park, Grayslake, Mundelein, Waukegan, and Libertyville. Round Lake was expected to send a truck, Fox Lake a squad, and four ambulances from Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Lake Villa, Long Grove, and Zion were on site for patient transport and firefighter rehab.
Photos from the scene include images taken by Larry and other local residents and bystanders.
