Excerpts from Chicago.cbslocal.com:
Chicago firefighters were called to respond to a fire at a two-story apartment building located near 68th and Aberdeen in the Englewood neighborhood around 11:20 p.m. on Thursday. Five residents managed to escape safely before the arrival of the first responders.
About 20 minutes later, a critical situation arose when a firefighter fell through the floor of the building. Fortunately, he was able to walk out of the structure on his own without any serious injuries. “He wasn’t transported. He didn’t suffer any injuries. He was quickly removed by his crew and continued working. He’s doing fine,†said Deputy District Chief Rosalind Jones of the Chicago Fire Department.
Firefighters worked from both the roof and ground level to contain the fire, which spread to the building directly to the south. By approximately 1:45 a.m., the flames were under control, but the fire reignited around 6:15 a.m. while crews remained on-site to monitor for hot spots.
