Double fatal fire in Chicago, 2-28-21

Excerpts from abc7chicago.com:

A tragic house fire in the 8600-block of South Hermitage in Gresham, Chicago, claimed the lives of a 10-year-old girl and her mother early Sunday morning. Family members confirmed that Ieashia Ford and her daughter Porsche were found dead inside the burning home. According to the family, the two were asleep when the fire started, and they believe it was not an accident. The fire occurred just hours after a tense argument between the mother and someone who had been harassing her, with one relative stating, “He was sending her threatening text messages and even said he would set her house on fire.”

Four other individuals were hospitalized following the incident, including the mother’s boyfriend and two cousins. All are expected to recover, though the emotional and physical toll is still being processed. Firefighters arrived quickly and managed to rescue six people from the house, but only four made it out alive. Authorities have not yet released the cause of the fire, but both fire and police departments are conducting a full investigation. An arson unit was also seen on the scene, though officials have not officially ruled out foul play.
