The *China Automobile Encyclopedia* is set to be released soon, marking a significant milestone in the documentation of China's automotive history. This comprehensive volume, spanning approximately two million words and featuring over 1,000 color illustrations, has been jointly edited by the China Society of Automotive Engineers and China Encyclopedia Publishing. It aims to fill a long-standing gap in the Chinese encyclopedic landscape by offering an authoritative reference on the automobile industry. On July 15, 1953, Chairman Mao Zedong personally inscribed the dedication for the foundation-laying ceremony of the First Automobile Manufacturing Factory, symbolizing the birth of China’s modern automotive industry. Since then, the sector has undergone decades of development, marked by trial and error, innovation, and rapid growth. The pace of progress has been so swift that the term “takeoff” seems almost insufficient to describe it. As the industry continues to evolve, there has been a growing need for a reliable and detailed resource to document its journey—until now. Prior to this publication, China lacked a true automotive encyclopedia, which was a notable omission. The *China Automobile Encyclopedia* fills that void by providing an in-depth exploration of all aspects of the automobile industry, both globally and within China. With contributions from leading experts and industry figures, the book offers a balanced mix of technical knowledge, practical insights, and cultural context. The editorial board includes prominent advisors such as Zou Jiahua, former vice premier of the State Council, and industry veterans like Yu Jian, He Guangyuan, Shao Qihui, and Chen Qingtai. Zhang Xiaolu, chairman of the association, serves on the editorial committee, which brings together more than a dozen top institutions, including FAW, SAIC, Dongfeng, the China Automotive Technology and Research Center, and prestigious universities like Beijing Institute of Technology, Tsinghua University, and Wuhan University of Technology. Over 100 experts and scholars contributed to the project. Designed with a focus on quality and accessibility, the book features a clear structure, rich visuals, and engaging content tailored for car enthusiasts, industry professionals, and young readers alike. It is expected to be published both domestically and internationally, with a release date set for June 2006. The book will be printed in large 16 format, using full-color coated paper, and bound in hardcover.
