Three kinds of fertilizers will be popular in the future

According to the latest forecast from the agricultural resources department, three types of fertilizers are expected to gain significant market traction in the coming years. These include specialized fertilizers for fruits and vegetables, industrially produced organic fertilizers, and controlled-release fertilizers designed for higher efficiency and sustainability. First, specialty fertilizers tailored for fruits and vegetables are set to rise in demand. While the prices of staple crops like rice, wheat, corn, and soybeans in China are currently 10% to 70% higher than global market levels, making them less competitive internationally, fruits and vegetables in China are priced about 30% lower than their international counterparts. This gives Chinese produce a strong edge in global markets. With increased exports post-WTO membership, the need for targeted fertilizers that enhance quality and yield is expected to grow substantially. Second, industrially produced organic fertilizers are becoming a key trend. Prolonged use of chemical fertilizers has led to declining soil health, affecting crop quality—such as fruits losing sweetness or rice becoming less fragrant. To address this, the shift toward organic fertilizers is gaining momentum. Industrial organic fertilizers offer better efficiency and are gradually replacing traditional farmyard manure. These fertilizers, often made by processing livestock waste with a small amount of chemical nutrients, help improve soil fertility while reducing environmental impact. In the 21st century, it's predicted that organic-inorganic compound fertilizers will dominate, with over 70% organic content. These products will be strategically applied in areas rich in organic resources to balance nutrient ratios and improve overall effectiveness. As a result, the usage of organic fertilizers is expected to steadily increase in the future. Third, controlled-release fertilizers are set to become a major player in the industry. Future developments in chemical fertilizers will focus not only on higher concentration and quality but also on improved efficiency, energy savings, and multifunctional formulations. High-efficiency fertilizers, including slow- and controlled-release types, as well as foliar fertilizers containing nitrification or urease inhibitors, are considered key directions for global fertilizer development. Energy-saving fertilizers reduce production costs and boost competitiveness, while also promoting resource conservation and long-term sustainability. By controlling the dissolution rate and nutrient release, these fertilizers maximize absorption and minimize waste. Countries like the U.S., Japan, and European nations have already adopted controlled-release technologies extensively, achieving fertilizer utilization rates above 60%. This indicates a huge potential for growth in the market for high-quality, efficient, and sustainable fertilizers.
