One of the significant steps Foton took was forming a strategic alliance with Beijing Weichai Power, BOSCH from Germany, and AVL from Austria on April 28, 2006, in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. This alliance aimed to combine the strengths of each company, leveraging their respective expertise in technology, research, and market strategies. By establishing a power system technology R&D center in Beijing, Foton and Weichai Power were able to develop leading automotive power products that meet international standards. The collaboration extended to integrating R&D centers globally, optimizing service networks, and implementing joint marketing, brand communication, and procurement strategies. These actions significantly reduced costs and enhanced core competitiveness. Together, they registered the core power brand "Weichaiou V Power," marking a milestone in their partnership.
Another key initiative was the establishment of a supply chain synchronization development complex. On May 14, 2005, the first meeting of Foton Motor's "Synchronization Development of Supply Chain" conference was held. This initiative brought together over 40 member units, including major parts suppliers like Shanghai Yanfeng Visteon Automotive Trim Systems Co., Ltd. The Synchronous Development Consortium focused on design cooperation, technology exchange, and innovation in automotive parts. This collaboration improved design efficiency, reduced development cycles, and accelerated product innovation. Currently, there are about 190 concurrent development projects between Foton Motor Research Institute and suppliers, resulting in over 140 patents.
Foton Motor also emphasized the importance of working closely with distributors. Adhering to the "distributor first" concept, Foton ensured that profit margins were maintained even during off-seasons. To strengthen relationships, Foton implemented a campaign-style direct sales strategy for disadvantaged distributors. Aoluole Branch selected sales staff as brand managers for distributors, responsible for regional sales management and marketing. For example, when Lotus evaluated the suspension of Foton's C2 project, instead of replacing the supplier, Foton organized training sessions for all suspension suppliers, improving their skills and solving the issue collectively. Foton's collaborations extended internationally, partnering with companies like AVL for engine optimization, Lotus for vehicle matching, MIM Design for automotive design, BOSCH for engine systems, Visteon for interior and exterior components, and Delphi for engine control. In 2006, Foton signed a feasibility study for a joint venture with Cummins to produce light-duty diesel engines in Beijing.
