Shandong Hengtong Chemical Co., Ltd. recently completed a major upgrade to the cooling water system of its chloroacetic acid crystallizer, resulting in a significant reduction in resource consumption. The company expects this improvement to boost annual efficiency by approximately RMB 360,000.
For many years, the cooling system had been operating under challenging conditions. Steam and water were simultaneously introduced into the jacket of the crystallization kettle, which led to frequent liquid-impact issues. The steam self-regulating valve was exposed to a highly corrosive environment for extended periods, causing damage to the porcelain lining of the crystallizer over time. Additionally, the strong acid corrosion eventually caused holes to form in the kettle body, allowing cooling water to leak into the reaction chamber and contaminate the product. This not only resulted in material waste but also created environmental pollution problems.
To address these issues, the company implemented a system overhaul, transitioning the cooling water from a closed-loop to an open-loop configuration. They also introduced a hot water tank to help raise the temperature during operation. When cooling is required, the circulating cooling water continues to be used to control the steam valve, thereby extending the service life of the crystallization kettle. This change has significantly reduced acid-related external drainage pollution and improved overall operational safety and efficiency.
