China's long-haul inland river and coastal paving ship design fills the domestic gap

After over a year of rigorous testing and practical application, the "Yonggong Pai No.1" ship, designed by the Yangtze River Shipping Design Institute of China Yangtze River Shipping Group, has successfully met the demands of large-scale river improvement projects along the Yangtze River. This innovative vessel has filled a critical gap in the design of ships for inland waterways and coastal areas in China. With the rapid economic growth of the Yangtze River Basin, the development of the Yangtze River Golden Waterway has gained significant attention from both the government and the public. The state and local governments have intensified efforts to improve key sections of the river, emphasizing the need for advanced and modernized infrastructure. In response to the requirements for soft foundation riverbed construction, the China Changhang Yangtze River Ship Design Institute was tasked with developing the first specialized ship for channel improvement. The "Yonggong Pai No.1" measures 59.5 meters in length, 18 meters in width, 3.2 meters in depth, and has a working width of 22 meters. It is equipped with high levels of automation, precise positioning systems, and user-friendly controls. Its positioning accuracy and joint alignment precision of 0.5 meters far exceed current industry standards for paving construction. The successful commissioning of this ship has significantly improved the efficiency of riverbed construction. According to calculations, it can lay 9,900 square meters per day, reducing construction costs by 0.4 yuan per square meter. The ship has been tested in real-world conditions during the Yichang Rouge Dam Project and the Anqing Dongliu Channel Improvement Project near Gezhouba. Its performance fully met all design specifications, receiving positive feedback from the construction teams and passing expert reviews conducted by the Ministry of Communications. In July of this year, the institute also took on the task of designing 40-meter-long ships for both the Yangtze River and coastal areas, with applications extending to embankment projects. The successful acceptance of these vessels marks China Changhang’s continued leadership in the field of dredging and paving ship design, reinforcing its reputation as a pioneer in river engineering technology.
